PEPS is designed as a networking group for parents of children with special needs. At our monthly meetings, we come together to talk about our children’s needs and our concerns for their well-being. We gather information from other parents and/or professionals.

Our goal is to support parents and teachers of children not meeting typical classroom expectations through monthly networking meetings.

PEPS’ PURPOSE

•To promote a positive and mutually respectful environment among all members of the school community.
•To encourage participation among interested parties in decisions affecting children with special needs.
•To foster awareness, acceptance and support for children with special needs in their involvement in community activities.
•To represent the needs of children with special needs to the District 57 community and to the School Board of Education.

October 27th Meeting Recap

We watched the video "Including Samual" which was written by a parent with a child with special needs. The movie explored their experiences with inclusion and examples of other kid's experiences. It showed how things have drastically changed and showed how things still need to improve. For me the movie brought up lots of emotions about the battles my son faces in his… Continue

First P.E.P.S. meeting of the 2008/2009 School year.

We had a nice turn out for our first meeting. I'm very excited about this group, I think we can really make a difference by getting together. A group of parents trying to better their children’s lives.

When my son Philip started school I had no idea what was in store for me. But we are very lucky to be in District 57. I met two wonderful teachers, Kathy Winters and Margie McCarthy. You cannot find two better people to help calm your fears and give you reassurance that your son or… Continue
